Corner wall shelf

When installing a shelving system in your home you should plan ahead to take full advantage of the corner space(s) of your room. Several shelving systems allow for you to place your shelving upon corners so you don’t have to waste all that precious corner space. When purchasing your corner shelves you must buy them at the correct dimensions so you can butt your shelves together at a designated corner. Wall mounted shelving allows for your shelves to butt together at the corners, you just have to make sure your shelving dimensions add up. A simple rule for figuring out the dimensions your shelves should be, measure the depth of your first shelf (the shelf that will touch the wall corner) subtract the depth of this shelf + 1 ¼” to your butting shelf. Using this rule your shelves should butt together at the corner acquiring all corner space (as shown in the picture to the right). For example, the shelf touching the corner has a depth of 12”, subtract 13 ¼” from the width of the shelf that will be butting against your first shelf at the corner.

Choosing the right corner shelves for your home

When shopping for your shelves keep in mind that most systems will not allow your shelves to acquire corner space due to the design of the shelving system.
